About CMYK to Pantone Conversion

Converting CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black) to Pantone is a common need in the printing industry. While CMYK is used for standard 4-color process printing, Pantone (PMS) colors are spot colors used for precise brand consistency.

Process vs Spot

CMYK mixes 4 inks to create a color. Pantone uses pre-mixed ink for an exact match every time.

Matching Logic

We convert your CMYK values to RGB, then calculate the closest distance to known Pantone colors.

Brand Safety

Find the closest PMS match to ensure your brand identity remains consistent across different print jobs.

How it Works

Our converter uses a two-step process to find your Pantone match:

  1. CMYK to RGB: First, we convert your CMYK percentage values into the RGB color space.
  2. RGB to Pantone: We then compare this RGB value against the Pantone library to find the colors with the smallest mathematical distance (Delta E).

Note: Because CMYK and Pantone are different color spaces (Subtractive vs Spot), a 100% perfect match isn't always possible. Our tool provides the closest possible approximations.
