DES Encryption & Decryption
Securely encrypt or decrypt your data using the Data Encryption Standard (DES) algorithm.
Understanding DES Encryption
What is DES?
The Data Encryption Standard (DES) is a symmetric-key algorithm for the encryption of digital data. Although now considered insecure for highly sensitive data due to its 56-bit key size, it remains a fundamental algorithm in the history of cryptography and is still used in some legacy systems.
How it Works
DES takes a 64-bit block of plaintext and a 56-bit key as input and produces a 64-bit block of ciphertext. The process involves multiple rounds of substitution and permutation, making it difficult to reverse without the correct secret key.
Security Note: DES is no longer recommended for new applications. For modern security requirements, consider using AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), which is much more secure and widely adopted.
