Understanding Frequency
Frequency is the number of occurrences of a repeating event per unit of time. It is also referred to as temporal frequency, which emphasizes the contrast to spatial frequency and angular frequency.
Common Units
- Hertz (Hz): The SI unit of frequency, equal to one cycle per second.
- Kilohertz (kHz): Equal to 1,000 Hertz.
- Megahertz (MHz): Equal to 1,000,000 Hertz.
- Gigahertz (GHz): Equal to 1,000,000,000 Hertz.
- RPM (Revolutions Per Minute): A unit of frequency commonly used for rotation speed. 1 Hz = 60 RPM.
- Radian per second (rad/s): The SI unit of angular velocity or angular frequency. 1 Hz ≈ 6.283 rad/s.
